AP® Computer Science Principles
This year-long AP® Computer Science course builds on the foundational ideas of computer science, developing the ideas and practices of computational thinking and inviting students to understand how computing changes the world. Students will learn how to analyze problems, use creative thinking, create computational artifacts and investigate real-world issues using computing. Students may seek college credit by taking the Computer Science Principles AP® exam. Exam scores and university criteria will determine eligibility for college credit. This is a project-based course in which students apply their knowledge to specified products that enhance their understanding of 21st Century skills application.
Career Development
This one semester course will provide an overview of the process of career/life planning through self-awareness and understanding. This course will provide an opportunity to evaluate interests, skills, and values. Emphasis is on the development of a comprehensive career-search process, which includes current occupational information, specific tools for researching the job market, and acquiring employment.
Computer Fundamentals 1
This course is the first semester of Computer Science Fundamentals, a Web 2.0 applications course that introduces the students to the mechanics and use of cloud-based computing applications, social media, digital citizenship, computational thinking, and basic web design. This is a project-based course in which students apply their knowledge to specified products that enhance their understanding of 21st Century skills application.
Computer Fundamentals 2
This course is the second semester of Computer Science Fundamentals, a Web 2.0 applications course that further introduces the students to the mechanics and use of cloud-based computing applications, social media, digital citizenship, and computational thinking. Students will be also be introduced to the basics of CSS, Javascript, networking, and databases. This is a project-based course in which students apply their knowledge to specified products that enhance their understanding of 21st Century skills application.
Introduction to Business 1
This course is the first semester of Introduction to Business and provides student with an overview of the nature and function of business. Various topics such as money, banking, credit, budgeting, insurance, advertising, investments, taxes, e-commerce and career opportunities are included. Students gain an awareness of the business environment and current business events.
Introduction to Business 2
This course is the second semester of Introduction to Business and provides student with an overview of the nature and function of business. Various topics such as money, banking, credit, budgeting, insurance, advertising, investments, taxes, e-commerce and career opportunities are included.
Personal Finance 1
The focus of this one semester course will be twofold: Financial Planning and Self-Management skills for the future. Real world topics covered will include income, money management, spending and credit, as well as saving, insurance, and investing. Students design personal and household budgets, apply knowledge of checking and savings accounts, gain knowledge in finance, debt and credit management, and evaluate and understand insurance and taxes. This course provides a foundational understanding for making informed personal financial decisions leading to financial independence.
Personal Finance 2
The focus of this one semester course will be a continuation of Personal Finance 1. Real world topics covered will include working with income, banking, independent living, investing in others, purchasing a car, financing your education after high school. This course continues to provide a foundational understanding for making informed personal financial decisions leading to financial independence.
Life Concepts
This is a one-semester course that will fulfill the Physical Education graduation requirement. Students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to continue and maintain good health. An emphasis will be placed on developing student's appreciation of an optimum level of physical fitness, through participation in lifetime leisure sports and activities, and health and fitness related exercise programs
POWER Fitness
This one-semester course will emphasize an improvement in overall fitness, including cardiovascular respiration, flexibility, strength training, and performance nutrition. Students commit to setting and meeting physical fitness goals, submitting evidence of participation and success.
Psychology 1
This one semester course introduces the students to the basics of human psychology. Major emphasis will be placed on the history of psychology, basic theories of psychology, learning principles and applications, sensations and perceptions and the body and behavior. This course requires advanced reading and critical thinking skills, as well as, student determination, persistence, and participation.
Psychology 2
This one semester course focuses on human behavior and why a person thinks, feels, and reacts to certain stimuli. Major emphasis will be placed on research methods, stages in childhood and adolescence, how the brain works, altered states of consciousness, psychological testing, and psychological disorders. This course requires advanced reading and critical thinking skills, as well as, student determination, persistence, and participation.
