Hello and welcome to the 2024/25 school year! My name is Deirdre Cronin and I am a 7th grade math teacher. I am very happy to be returning to Desert Shadows for my 12th year. At DSMS I have taught both 7th and 8th grade, in addition to tutoring Algebra 1/2 in my spare time! I taught for 15 years in the Alhambra School District prior to coming to the PV School District. I believe in order to be successful, each student, parent, and teacher needs to be a partnership and work together! I am so grateful to be part of the exceptional team here at Desert Shadows Middle School. It's an amazing place to come to work every day. DSMS is the best middle school!
I grew up in New Jersey and moved out to AZ to attend Arizona State University. Go Sun Devils! In my spare time I love to travel to the ocean, binge watching Netflix, spend time with friends and family, and watch football! I'm a HUGE AZ Cardinals fan!
I encourage your child to come to Math class every day thinking of it like a "puzzle". I will present them with a variety of ways to solve the problems and they choose and figure out their best way to learn. I believe in multiple ways to find solutions and look forward to seeing them flourish! Not everyone likes math (so I have heard...), but we can all find ways to improve and do our personal best every day. :)
To the upcoming students...Math is not a class where you can just sit back and watch. You have to roll up your sleeves, sharpen your pencil, THINK, and get ready to make mistakes. Don't give up after you make mistakes, that's when you are about to learn. I promise you that this year in my class you will learn a lot, smile, even laugh, have fun, and be proud of yourself. WORK HARD, BE KIND. I can't wait to meet you.
