W:Nau mai, Haere mai Ki KPE …. You’re listening to Korero Pt England,
coming to you from Auckland New Zealand.
D: Hi my Name is Waata and I'm a year 6 at Point England School, joining me Today is Waata and he's here to tell us about a book he has been reading .
W: KIA ORA Waata
D: KIA ORA Darius
W: So Waata what have you been reading lately?
D:I’ve been reading a book called Nasty Stinky Sneakers written by Eve Bunting
W:Hey Waata can you tell me why the book is about sneakers sneakers, you better explain what you mean. Not everybody call them sneakers.
D: They are trainers or sometimes we call them runners. You know, sports shoes
W: ok, well tell us who is in the story?
D:Well the main characters Colin and Webster. They were outside of there apartment they were taking there sneakers off and Colin's Sneakers smelt rotten . eEven if you triple bagged them and locked them away the sneakers still smelt.
W: Why does he keep them why doesn’t he just get a new pair of sneaker?
D: Well he is gettingwas going to get new Sneakers but its flash ones see there is a competition and if youa new pair of new pairs of sneakers. But then he saw the competition .
W: What was it for?
D: You had to have the stinkiest sneakers
W: Poooo, I wouldn’t want to be a judge at that competition. What could you win?
D: If you win you get these flash slam dunkerbasket ball type sneakers. he’sColin was wanting to win so that his parents don’t have to buy him some new ones.
W: who doest want new sneakers though?
D: because it was Colin was eves droppingg this one night where he heard his mum and talking about the bills.
W: Have you had money trouble?
D:No have you?
W:No, I’m lucky I’m still young enough that my parents take care of me.
oOkay well lets get back to the story
D:Colin was getting ready for the competition and he was trying to get them as stinky as he could
W: How did he do that?.
D: Webster his friend had a check list and he was listing the things that they had donecould try like takening his socks off when he wears them ,and he jogsging in them to get them nice and juicy..
W: Uhhhh Disgusting I have never met a person who’s done those things before.
D: Well it gets worse. aAfter a few minutes Colin goes and checks on his pairs of sneakers and guess what happens?
W: They’re gone?
D: You are absolutely right.
W: Who would want to steal them? - they pong!! What happens next?
D:They ask their neighbour if they could borrow his dog Bruno to try and sniff them out.
W: Good idea Do they sniff out the thehiefif?
D: They tried but failed instead they sniffed out one of the other competitors Jack Dunn.
W:Did he take the sneakers?
D:Jack says no and he is right but. So cColin has a deadlydangerous to find out where the winning sneakers could be. It’s so dangerous it plan that could end his and his friends Webster’s lives.
W: Wow that must be very dangerous plan what happens in the devious plan?
D:Well they take Jack Dunns sneakers.
W: Well their They’re dead then.!
D: Don’t say that yet you never know they could actually survive.
W:Well do they?
D: Wait I’ll tell you soon anyway Colin tries to hide the sneakers but instead when he left them there the next morning his shoes are gone.
W: Yeah I’m still getting the felling Colin and Webster are in BIG trouble.
D: Uhhh just wait. They find out that actually a rubbish truck has taken them so Colin’s little sister and the dog go after the truck to try and get them back
W: Okay so what happens next, do they get their stinky sneakers back?
D: Well you’ll have to read the book your self.
W: Okay. What do you think the author’s message is?
D: I think Eve Bunting is saying that old things can be useful to. New is not always best.
