 Library Policies & Expectations

• The library is open from 8:00 am – 3:35 pm daily.

• Students are required to use JWMS ID cards to use the library before school.

• Please send all Teacher Requests via email (Class-sets, etc.).  Please allow 24 hours of turn-around time to fill requests.

• The Library is open during lunch for students on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (unless a class is scheduled to use the library).  Students must have a library lunch pass in order to use the library at lunch. We hand out passes before school and during passing periods. A limited amount of passes are given out each day and they are on a first-come, first-serve basis. 

• The Library will not be open during student lunches on Wednesdays or Minimum Days.

• Ms.Gallacher’s lunch schedule is as follows:

 Mon/Tues/Thurs/Friday: 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm;  Wednesdays: 11:19 am - 11:49 am

Bringing Your Classes To The Library:

•  Please meet with Ms. Gallacher at least one day in advance to schedule time in the Library.  This will allow us time to plan our collaborative lesson and/or find appropriate resources for your class. (We will try to accommodate emergencies, but make no promises). 

•  A Poster of the JWMS Library Calendar is located behind the Circulation Desk.  There is also an online version of the Library Calendar located here: 2023/24 Calendar. If you see a date that is open, please email Ms. Gallacher so that your class can be added to the Library Calendar.

• Full classes may not be sent to the library unsupervised, small groups (5 or fewer may be sent for the purpose of checking out books). A teacher must accompany their classes at all times or it is considered substituting and appropriate payment will be required, which must be pre-approved by the administration. 

• Teachers are expected to remain with and supervise their classes at all times while visiting the library. 

•  There are certain days that the Library is closed for meetings and/or maintenance. These days are marked on the Library Calendar. Please understand that these days are few but important and students cannot come in during these times.

• You are welcome to send students to make up a test in the Library.  We do ask that you call us in advance to check for availability and send them with an official pass. Please let us know on the pass that they are taking a test and may or  may not use other materials (i.e. notes, textbook, calculator, etc…)

• If your class is scheduled to use the library and you are absent, your reservation will be canceled.  Substitute teachers may not bring classes to the library, nor may they write passes to the library unless prior arrangements were made with a librarian.

• If you are out of class loaners and wish a student to work on the library desktop computers, please call first to make sure space is available. 

• No long-term or repetitious scheduling will be allowed.  This measure is necessary to ensure that all staff members have an opportunity to access our services.

Chromebook Policies / Procedures:

• When students have Chromebook issues/loss/damage please send them to the library.  

• If the student has lost or damaged their device or charging cord, they will receive a Technolgy Form from the Library Staff that they will need to fill out and return signed by their parent/guardian.  Frequent offenders will be referred to the administration and could be subject to school disciplinary consequences.

• Students with Chromebooks that are experiencing tech issues/glitches (that are not caused by them), will be issued a replacement device without having to submit the JWMS Technology Incident Form.

• Classroom Loaners -  You must request these from your Department Chair and have them purchased with site funds. The district is no longer supplying classroom loaners. 

Passes to the Library

• Teachers are asked to call the library at extension 1465 to check for computer availability before sending students with passes.  If we do not receive a phone call first, the student(s) will be asked to return to class.

• A phone call is only required for students needing a computer.  Students not needing a computer may come directly to the library with a valid pass.

• A maximum of 5 students may come to the library with individual passes.  Teachers needing to send more than 5 students must schedule a time and accompany their students to the library.

• Teachers are asked to ensure that students coming to the library have an educational activity to engage in.  Students that are off task will be asked to return to their class.

• If a student is asked to leave the library the teacher who issued the pass will be notified with the reason for removal.

Laminating & Poster Maker

• If you wish to use the Laminator, please come by and turn it on or call the library 15 minutes before you need it. Do not send students to use the Laminator, staff only will be allowed to use it. 

• Poster Maker: We are happy to teach you how to use the Poster Maker but do not make the posters for you. 

Hot Spots:

•  If you have a student who needs a hot spot, please email Ms. Galacher with the following information:

  • *Student Name

  • *Student ID Number

  • *Parent/Guardian Contact Phone Number

  • All requests for student Hot Spots are submitted via a Google Sheet from ETIS. ETIS will then either fulfill or deny all hot spot requests. Once the hot spot is delivered to JWMS, we will call the student to the library to check out and pick up.

Tech Issues Procedure: Please use the following link to submit a work order for all district technology issues: Tech Work Orders.  This will ensure that your request will be put in our ETIS Tech’s queue. If you need help with this please contact the library staff.
