Werner Geocache Page

What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is a lot like treasure hunting. It uses global positioning satellites (GPS) to find out where something is on Earth. You probably have used GPS to find your way to a store when your family is driving. Professionals use GPS to mark and measure where they see animals, forest fires, sea trash, lava flow, tides and much more (more info here). For many of us, GPS can be used for geocaching or treasure hunting. You can use a phone, GPS unit, or Google Earth to find latitude and longitude coordinates for something that you are trying to find. Below are a couple of GPS challenges for Werner Families. 1) A 'Waymarking Wildcat Challenge' has you hunting for statues or paintings of wildcats. 2) Geocaches at Werner Challenge' has some boxes hidden around Werner school grounds. After you have mastered these challenges, you are ready to try some online geocaching with your family.

Waymarking Wildcat Challenge

If you see a painting or a statue of a wildcat while you are out and about, take a picture and record the GPS coordinates. Then e-mail me, and I will post the picture and coordinates here for others to enjoy. Make sure the painting or sculpture is outside and that you can see it from public property. To get GPS coordinates you will need to have a phone or GPS device. On a phone, you can drop a pin on a map to get the coordinates or use Google Earth.
