Art Room News

Students have already been very busy creating some beautiful work this year! Wondering where all of that amazing art is? I keep most projects at school during the year so that they are organized for school displays, grade level art shows, and district art shows. Each student has a portfolio where all of their artwork is stored. This portfolio will be sent home at the end of the year.

As artwork is completed, students are graded on their effort. We check to make sure that artwork is “Neat, Complete, and Totally Sweet!” “Neat” means the student’s craftsmanship and taking their time. “Complete” means that the student is following directions and finishing their work. “Totally Sweet” means the student’s creativity and effort. We are talking about “growth mindset” this year in art, so that means that our artwork does not have to look perfect, but we will always try our best and never give up!

One activity that 2^nd and 3^rd graders have already completed was a fun color experiment to teach us about primary colors and how they mix. This experiment involved common household items, and many students asked me for the “recipe” so that they could replicate it at home. Finally, an important note: Because of COVID protocols and trying our best to not share germs, we are unable to use paint shirts. We mainly paint with tempera cakes or watercolors, which are not very messy to use. Students are learning how to follow the paint rules and paint very carefully, however, you may want to avoid wearing “favorite outfits” on art days. “Specials” (art, music, and PE) are on a continually rotating basis this year, so ask your child about their specials schedule, or reach out to their teacher or me to figure out when their art days are.

¡Los estudiantes ya han estado muy ocupados creando hermosos trabajos este año! ¿Se pregunta dónde se encuentra todo este increíble arte? Guardo la mayoría de estos proyectos en la escuela durante el año para que estén organizados para exhibiciones escolares, exhibiciones de arte de nivel de grado y exhibiciones de arte del distrito. Cada estudiante tiene un portafolio donde se almacenan todas sus obras de arte. Esta carpeta se enviará a casa al final del año.

A medida que se completan las obras de arte, se califica a los estudiantes según su esfuerzo. Verificamos para asegurarnos de que la obra de arte esté "limpia, completa y totalmente genial". "Limpia" significa la destreza del estudiante y el tomarse su tiempo en completarla. “Completa” significa que el estudiante está siguiendo instrucciones y terminando su trabajo. "Totalmente genial" significa la creatividad y el esfuerzo del estudiante. Este año en Arte estamos hablando de “Mentalidad de crecimiento”, lo que significa que nuestra obra de arte no tiene que verse perfecta, ¡Pero siempre haremos nuestro mejor esfuerzo y nunca nos rendiremos!

Una actividad que los alumnos de 2º y 3º Grado ya completaron fue un divertido experimento de colores para enseñarnos sobre los Colores Primarios y cómo se mezclan. Este experimento involucró artículos domésticos comunes, y muchos estudiantes me pidieron la “receta” para poder replicarla en casa. ¡Es divertido para cualquier grupo de edad!

Finalmente, una nota importante: Debido a los protocolos de COVID y haciendo nuestro mejor esfuerzo para no compartir gérmenes, no podemos usar camisetas para protegernos de la pintura. Principalmente pintamos con témpera o acuarelas, que no son muy complicados de usar. Los estudiantes están aprendiendo a seguir las reglas de pintura y pintar con mucho cuidado, sin embargo, es posible que desee evitar que usen sus "trajes favoritos" en los días de arte. Los “Especiales” (Arte, Música, Educación Física) se rotan continuamente este año, así que pregúntele a su estudiante sobre su horario de Especiales, o comuníquese con él o la maestra o conmigo para averiguar cuándo son sus días de arte.
