Welcome to Art!

P.S. 170x - 1598 Townsend Ave. Bronx, NY 10452

Art helps develop fine motor skills, builds self-confidence, and serves a a wonderful medium for self-expression.  It allows students to see the infinite possibilities in the world around them.  Students learn to work collaboratively by sharing or working together to solve a problem.

Every child has the ability to create something!

Students of P.S. 170X have art 1-3 times a week for 45 minutes.  Students will learn to express themselves creatively while learning art skills and history. They will explore various materials and techniques through drawing, painting, sculpting, building, collaging, and printmaking.

Students will learn a variety of art terms and vocabulary.  They will learn to use these terms in everyday life and apply them to their content curriculum.  Art projects will be built upon the basic elements of art and design where students will be able to create and recognize:

Line - Shape - Form - Color - Space - Texture - Value

During art class, students will analyze famous artists and their work and learn to talk about what they think and see about works of art.  Art projects will be kept in the classroom or be displayed throughout the school year in the hallways.  Students will bring home their entire portfolio at the end of the school year.

Every year, PS 170X will present an art show to showcase the talent and hard work of our students.  This year, the gallery show will be held in the dance room in June.

P.S. 170X students are engaged and enthusiastic artists!  It is a privilege to work with them this school year!

Sincerely,

Note!
