MUSI 101: MUSIC & FILM
This survey course serves both as an introduction to music as well as an introduction to the conventions of music as they are specifically applied to the genre of film. The course fulfills PLU’s General Education Arts requirement and may also be applied to PLU's interdisciplinary Film and New Media Studies minor.
MUSI 106: THE MUSIC OF SCANDINAVIA
This survey course serves both as an introduction to music as well as a overview of the musical traditions of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. The course fulfills PLU’s General Education Arts requirement as well the Cross-Cultural requirement. The course may also be applied to majors and minors in Nordic Studies.
MUSI 205/405: VIOLIN LESSONS
Studio instruction in violin meets weekly with additional weekly seminars and ongoing performances and masterclasses. Intended for Music majors (B.M., B.M.A., B.A., B.M.E) and minors as well as non-majors. The course is offered every semester.
MUSI 241: STRING LAB I
This course is intended for Music Education majors (B.M.E.) with certification in Orchestra or Band. Music Education majors with certification in Choral Music may take this course as an elective. The course is offered in the fall semester of odd years.
MUSI 242: STRING LAB II
This course is intended for Music Education majors (B.M.E.) seeking certification on Orchestra. The course is offered in the spring semester even years.
IHON 260: THE ARTS IN SOCIETY
This course is part of the International Honors Program fulfilling the Fine Arts requirement for the IHON program. The course is offered almost every semester, but Dr. Rønning’s section is usually offered in J-Term and occasionally at the University of Oxford through PLU's IHON-Oxford program.
MUSI 381: CHAMBER MUSIC
A course open to students who are Music majors and minors as well as non-majors. Ten coachings per semester conclude with an assessed lab performance and an assessed public performance.
MUSI 455: STRING PEDAGOGY
This course is required for students in the B.M.E. and B.M. degrees in Strings and may be taken by other music majors and minors with permission of the instructor.
MUSI 456: METHODS AND MATERIALS FOR CLASSROOM STRINGS
This course is required for students in the B.M.E. major seeking certification in Orchestra.
