856 INTERMEDIATE COMPUTER GRAPHICS

FINE ARTS ELECTIVE

1 Semester – 1/2 credit

Grades 9,10,11,12 – Elective – Fee

Prerequisite:Foundations in Computer Graphics

Intermediate Computer Graphics will expand upon the basic skills learned in Foundations in Computer Graphics, as well as adding skills in new programs. Lessons will involve a mix of commercial graphics applications (magazine/web/poster design) as well as fine arts applications (digital painting/photo manipulation/illustration).

There are a limited number of sections offered. If the number of students needs to be reduced, upperclassmen will have the priority.

WORKING ON COMPUTER GRAPHICS AT HOME

Our main computer graphics platform is now Adobe's Creative Cloud. (CC) This contains all the industry standard programs used by digital designers/illustrators. However, since it is very expensive, working at home will probably require using open sourced software (legally free), or getting a trial version of Photoshop/Illustrator for a limited time. Programs on Adobe's Creative Cloud can be leased on a month by month basis for students who want extra time at home.

GIMP (open source software) will open up Photoshop documents and is also able to save as a Photoshop document. (.psd) However, there may be some loss of information. (For example, it will not save paths.)

You can go to any of the following sites and download the applications for free and get a start on the school work:) These are completely safe, and should work on both Macs and PCs. If you have older operating systems (Like Windows XP) you may need to download older versions of some programs. For example, you may need to download Gimp 2.6 for Windows XP.

INT COMP GRAPH : Photoshop

1.1 SILHOUETTE PROJECT

- Students will practice using design elements and photoshop tools to create a simple design as a class warm up project.

1.2 FANTASTICAL LANDSCAPE:

Photoshop - Students will create a surrealistic landscape that has at least 5 photo manipulations to reaffirm PS skills

This is a good example of what you will be doing. You're going to combine a number of images into your own, creative scene. You can find images, but taking your own image for specific needs can be very useful!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PROJECT:
