Mr. Dixon's Class Standards and Expectations
Welcome to A.P. Calculus! The following information should give you an idea of what I expect from you and what you can expect from me this semester.
Four Simple Rules
Materials
You must have your book, pencil, and a graphing calculator with you when you walk in the door each day.
When You're Absent
It is your responsibility to find out what assignments and notes you missed while out of class. You need to complete all missed assignments and obtain copies of notes for the days you were absent. If you are absent the day of a test, be ready to take it your first day back (unless you've been gone more than two days). You will not have the opportunity to make-up missed quizzes. If you miss class due to a field trip or assembly, you are not excused from the day's assignment and must contact someone in the class to find out what is due the next day.
Assignments
Assignments from the previous day should be out and ready to be checked off at the beginning of the period. Every assignment will be discussed the next day in class. You are expected to check answers of odd-numbered problems and make corrections on problems missed before you come to class. I will grade most assignments based on completion only (not right and wrong answers). If you were not absent and turn in a late assignment, it will receive, at most, half credit. Students missing more than two homework assignments in a quarter will not be eligible for extra credit for that quarter.
Tests
Tests will always be announced well in advance, quizzes may not be. Some portions of a test may require a graphing calculator, whereas others prohibit the use of calculator.
Grading
Grades are computed based on tests, quizzes, daily assignments, and miscellaneous activities such as lab activities and writing assignments and projects.
The approximate percentage of your final grade attributed to each of the categories is as follows:
10% Assignments
65% Quizzes and Tests
15% Final Exam
10% Class Work/Group Work
I assign letter grades by the following scale:
A 90-100%
B 80-89.9%
C 70-79.9%
D 60-69.9%
