First 4 years of college: Undergraduate Study
Associates of Arts (A.A.)/Associates of Science (A.S.) typically take 2 years to complete at community or junior colleges
Bachelors of Arts (B.A.)/Bachelors of Science (B.S.) degrees are the two of the most common undergraduate degrees and typically take about 4 years to achieve at 4 year colleges/universities.
After your Bachelor's Degree: Graduate Study
Masters of Arts (M.A.)/Masters of Science (M.S.)/ Master of Business Administration (MBA), etc degrees. These degrees typically take 2-3 years to complete
Professional Doctoral degrees (PhD, J.D., M.D., D.O., PharmD, D.D.S., EdD, etc.) Typically take 4+ years to complete

4 Year Public Universities: Public universities are 4 year institutions funded by local & state governments. They usually offer lower tuition rates for in-state students. Examples include the UCs, CSUs, and out-of-state public universities.
4 Year Private Universities: Private universities are typically funded by student tuition & private sources. Financial Aid varies based on campus. Examples include local/out-of-state liberal arts colleges, religious colleges, fine arts colleges, private research universities, and more!
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY (CSU) SYSTEM
The CSU system is made up of 23 universities throughout California
Emphasizes experience and in-person learning
Focuses on preparing students for the job market and workforce
Requires a minimum 2.0 GPA to apply
Requires a C- or higher in all A-G courses

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA (UC) SYSTEM
The UC system is made up of 10 campuses throughout California
Emphasizes cutting edge research
Focuses on preparing students for graduate school and careers in research
Requires a minimum 3.0 GPA to apply
Requires a C- or higher in all A-G courses
Examples include UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Merced, UC Santa Cruz, and more. Learn about the UC campuses here.
Reach out to your academic counselor! You can recover A-G courses for UC/CSU Eligibility through Saturday Academy and Summer School.
UC/CSUs do not take standardized test scores into account
Other universities might so make sure to read their admissions websites and eligibility requirements carefully.
If you decide to take the SAT, sign up through CollegeBoard. Make sure you pick a date that will allow you to receive your test scores before your application is due.
