Faculty members and researchers of the department have received many honours and awards over the last 50 years such as
several URSI International Young Scientist Awards,
Prof. V. V. Narlikar Award,
UGC National Lectureship,
S. K. Mitra Memorial Award,
K. S. Krishnan Memorial Award,
WBSSC Awards, etc.
The Laser Laboratory in this Department had earlier been declared by the UGC as one of the best in India contributing in the field of Nonlinear Optics.
GNSS laboratory of this department has got recognition from the European Space Agency (2014) for GNSS activities and is the first member from India in Multi-GNSS Asia (MGA) consortium, Japan
Many of the faculty members are recipients of Fellowships/ Associateship of different professional organizations, reviewers of reputed international/national journals, guest editors of technical journals.
