TRACK & FIELD is a Spring sport where each athlete is contributing his or her individual abilities to the team. Athletes are encouraged to work for their PR (Personal Record) in different event by improving their times and scores (this may include them participating in events that are beneficial for the team). Qualifying times/scores can earn athletes a spot in the league finals.
Practices will be held at PJHS most weekdays right after school (usually between 1 to 1 1/2 hours). The schedule will be updated on the PJHS Track & Field Website throughout the season.
Track athletes will not only learn about running, training and mental toughness, but they will learn a lot about themselves. They will also experience a sport with a strong history of respect, sportsmanship and camaraderie with other athletes.
TRACK & FIELD EVENTS:
RELAYS: 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relays
SPRINTS: 100, 200 and 400 meters
DISTANCE: 800 and 1600 meters
FIELD EVENTS: Shot Put, Long Jump and High Jump
For our home meets (held at PHS) we will need volunteers to help run the various events. For away meets (which are held at other high schools throughout the county), there will only be a bus provided for the further away meets, so athletes will often need to have their own transportation from one of the following:
Parent/Guardian
School Cleared Driver (driver forms are available here and in the main office)
*NOTE: If there is no bus provided, then athletes can only be transported with one of the above mentioned drivers
