Cross Country is a Fall sport (Aug-Oct) where athletes run courses around 2 miles over terrain (paths, hills, trails, grass, etc.). Some of those courses will be flat while others will include hills. Cross Country is both a team and individual sport where a team score points based on the place individual members finish. (First place = 1 point, Second place = 2 points, etc…) The team with the lowest combined score wins.
Practices will be held at PJHS most weekdays right after school (for usually around 1 hour). The schedule will be updated on the PJHS Cross Country Website throughout the season.
Cross Country runners will not only learn about running, pacing and mental toughness, but they will learn a lot about themselves. They will also experience a sport with a strong history of respect, sportsmanship and camaraderie with other runners.
For most meets, athletes will need to have their own transportation from one of the following:
Parent/Guardian
School Emergency Contact
School Cleared Driver (driver forms are available here and in the main office)
NOTE: For farther meets, a district bus/van may be provided. In that case an athlete may only ride in the district vehicle or with their own parent/guardian
For our home meets (held at Putnam Park on Chileno Valley Road) we will also need volunteers to help monitor the race course. Visiting meets are held at other schools/locations throughout the county. League finals are held at Spring Lake Park in Santa Rosa.
