Q: When is the appropriate time to begin an instrument?
String instruments begin in 3rd grade and Band instruments begin in 4th grade. Generally, we do not start new instrumentalists in middle school; however, it is up to the discretion of the middle school Band or Orchestra director based upon the needs of their ensembles.
Q: How are instrument lessons scheduled?
In elementary school, students in the Band and String programs are pulled out for a 30 minute lesson once per week. Lessons rotate throughout the day so that students do not miss the same class each week. Students are responsible to make up any work that they miss during their lesson time.
At the middle school level, students in Band and Strings have a 42 minute lesson that occurs once per week. Lessons rotate throughout the day so that students do not miss the same class each week. Students are responsible to make up any work that they miss during their lesson time.
Classroom teachers are very flexible and supportive of the Instrumental Music program and will work with your child to make sure that they get all of their missed work.

Q: Can I participate in more than one performing ensemble?
