The purpose of the Mechanical Engineering Lab Team (MELT) is to teach students how to use the wide array of tools available in the machine shop and connected labs. This is usually done through project-based learning, where a MELT Tech walks a student through a project of their choice, giving them hands-on knowledge of various manufacturing processes. MELT also occasionally leads workshops, which range from general overviews of various machines to specific skills (e.g. how to set up a Solidworks part for the 60W laser cutter).

- Run workshops to keep the core MELT group up to date with primary machines.
- Facilitate student knowledge - provide documentation and on-call instruction to other students.
- Take advantage of PSU's machines; improve the machine shop; start an online knowledge library.
- Facilitate internal ME department outreach.
- Facilitate interdepartmental outreach.
