When it is necessary for your child to take medicine at school, it is the responsibility of the PARENT/RESPONSIBLE ADULT TO PROVIDE THE MEDICINE. In addition, the procedures listed below must be followed:
Over-the-Counter Medication: If the medicine is left in the health office to be given by the nurse, it must be accompanied by a written doctor's order and a parent/guardian signature for permission to administer medication at school. The doctor's order and parent signature will be kept in the student's health file in the nurse's office. The medicine must be in the original container. Medication orders must be renewed yearly.
Prescription Medicine: All medication must be kept in the nurse's office at all times and dispensed by the nurse or health aide assistant. It will be kept in a locked and secure area. The medicine must be in the current labeled container from the pharmacy with dispensing directions. The parent signature for permission to administer medication at school must be on file in the nurse's office along with a physician's written order. If the prescription must be given at home, as well as during school hours, ask your pharmacy to supply two labeled containers, one for home and one for school. Medications will be counted and proper documentation on file before the medicine will be dispensed to the student. Medication orders must be renewed yearly. Medication policies are outlined in further detail in the student handbook. STUDENTS SHOULD NEVER BRING MEDICATIONS TO SCHOOL.
