Mission Statement

The Counseling and Student Services Department will provide a comprehensive developmental school counseling program addressing the academic, career, and person/social development of all students.  School counselors, as part of the Pana High School learning community, will facilitate the support system so all students have access to the tools enabling them to become responsible and productive citizens, who can effectively manage future challenges and who can progress confidently into an ever-changing society.

What is a School Counselor?

School counselors are professional educators with a mental health perspective who understand and respond to the challenges presented by today’s diverse student population.  School counselors do not work in isolation; rather they are integral to the total education program.  

School counselors implement the counseling program by providing:

Academic skills support 

Organizational, study and test-taking skills 

Post-secondary planning and application process 

Career planning 

Education in understanding self and others 

Coping strategies 

Peer relationships and effective social skills
