From Expo to river Po

From the Po to the Expo passing through the Regional Park of the River Serio

Inside the Park of the River Serio there is a natural reserve, a Site of Community Importance (SIC), which is part of an Ecological Network. Palata Menasciutto is a wet area inside a plain made up by two little oxbow lakes surrounded by woods.

FIRST STEP

The aim of the park is to protect and preserve the species present in the area, to promote sustainable agricultural techniques and enhance the natural beauty of the territory.

SECOND STEP

Inside the Site of Community Importance (SIC) agriculture must comply with certain rules in order to protect the biodiverisity and keep the ecological balance of the whole area.

THIRD STEP

There are many fish species and amphibians in the river Serio that can also be found in other rivers in the North of Italy.

As far as Palata Menasciutto is concerned,  the most important species is the Italian frog (The Frog of Lataste), which is  endemic in the area.

FOURTH STEP

Inside the park there are several varieties of wildlife and flora. The lapwing, among the avifauna, has become its symbol.

FIFTH STEP

The park has created its own brand to label the farming produce grown on its farms. One of its tasks is also to promote a distribution network near each farming production site.
