Prepare for the SAT

There are a number of resources that students and their parents can use to prepare for the SAT Exam. Current seniors as well as Juniors who will be taking the SAT prior to March 2020 should visit https://sat.collegeboard.org/register/sat-us-dates for links to practice questions and other resources that can assist in preparing for success on the SAT.

Juniors who register to take the SAT Exam in March 2019 and beyond should visit https://www.khanacademy.org/sat for access to free resources including interactive quizzes, instant feedback, practice tests and much more.

Reminders for before testing:

  • Get a good night's REST

  • Get up EARLY enough to eat BREAKFAST

  • Get to the testing center at least 15 minutes early (by 7:45... the doors will close at 8 and you will not be admitted afterwards)

  • Remember to bring the following:

  • Leave your cell phone at home or make sure it is completely off and away (otherwise you risk your scores being canceled) - NO PHONE

SAT test taking tips and strategies:

  • Keep track of TIME

  • READ passages and questions CAREFULLY

  • Mark up your answer booklet - use it as scrap paper to note important things in passages, cross out wrong answers, fold pages as a reminder to double check certain questions, etc... (NOT your test booklet though! Make sure to only bubble in what you should there in No. 2 pencil only)

  • Answer the EASY questions FIRST - Since it is timed, this will help you move most efficiently through the test and often times the easier questions can remind you of things that may help you answer more difficult ones.

  • ELIMINATE answers you know are WRONG - There is only one right answer so eliminating answers helps you narrow down the options and choose the best answer.

  • If unsure, narrow down the options and make an EDUCATED GUESS or skip the question and come back to it

  • Circle questions you skip in your answer booklet and fold the corner of the page if it helps you remember to go back

  • Keep your answer sheet NEAT

  • CHECK your answer sheet regularly (to make sure you are in the right place and didn't miss a bubble or forget to leave a space if you skipped a question)

  • Work at an EVEN, STEADY pace and KEEP MOVING

**TRY YOUR BEST :) YOU CAN DO THIS!!
