The sixth grade curriculum is essentially an introduction to global history with an emphasis on the eastern hemisphere. We begin the year with a study of physical geography and map reading skills, focusing on landforms and water features. We move on to human geography with the dawn of man and the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome and China--making connections between them all along. We will study the major religions of the world and we will spend time learning about current events.
The main questions that we seek to answer throughout the year are two: What is it? Why is it there? We frame our study through the Five Themes of Geography: Location, Place, Region, Human-Environmental Interaction and Migration.
Homework is given most nights and usually posted on the Google Classroom.
