ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING

Course Description:

Course number: STM203

Course length: 1 trimester

Grades:10-12

Type of credit: Elective, 0.5 credit

Prerequisite: Materials and Processes Technology or Introduction to Engineering 1

For students interested in a career in Architecture, Interior Design, or Construction this course is a must. Students will work on designing and creating blueprints for their dream home using state of the art 3D modeling software. The final project will be a light commercial project chosen by the class such as a coffee shop, gas station, etc. Topics Covered: Zones of a Home, Traffic Flow, Budgeting, Building Codes, and Print Reading.

Example Projects: Cabin Floor Plan, Dream House Floor Plan, Light Commercial Project

Workplace Competencies:

Students receive daily points based on a rubric that grades students on characteristics that they are expected to have in the workplace such as attendance, being prepared, behavior, attitude, participation, safety practices, and time management on class work.

Grading:

Students will have formative assessments throughout the semester consisting of bookwork, worksheets, quizzes, essays, etc. In addition they will also have summative assessments consisting of tests and projects. They will be graded on a cumulative points based system using the following grade scale:

92.5-100 A 89.5-92.49 A- 86.50-89.49 B+ 82.50-86.49 B 79.50-82.49 B- 76.50-79.49 C+

72.50-76.49 C 69.50-72.49 C- 66.50-69.49D+ 62.50-66.49 D 59.50-62.49 D- 59.49 or less F

Late Work:

Students will be given one extra day for each day they are gone to turn in assignments with no penalty. If a student does not turn in an assignment on time they will lose 10% of what they earn on that assignment for each day that it is late until they reach 50%. Once a student reaches this point they will be allowed to turn in their assignment for 50% of what they earn until the grading window for that term closes. After the grading term closes they will receive no credit.

Retakes:

All students are allowed to retake tests for full credit as long as it is arranged with me outside of the normally scheduled class time, such as during WYN, Homeroom, before school, or after school. Students who choose to retake a test will be given the score they earn on the retake.

Needed Items:

Each student is required to have a pencil and paper every day.
