Packets
We hand out packets for each unit. Packets contain all info for kids to be successful in Health class. They use these packets to follow along in class and take some notes.
Packets contain project information along with "5 Minute Conversation" information.
Cool part- if students complete all "5 Minute Conversation" assignments- they can use their entire packet on the written test!! Seriously. We are about practicing for success here. The kids are 10,11 and 12. It's ok.
The "5 Minute Conversations" are designed to start a conversation about what is going on in Health class. They can be shorter or longer discussions- totally up to you.
It will be up to the kids if they want to complete these assignments and be able to use their packet on the test. We will check these assignments on a "due date" in class. It helps get the kids ready to take the test and gives us an end date.
YES- parents must write down what your child says. This way I know you had the conversation- it is like your signature to me. If a kid writes it, I'm not convinced they had the talk with you. After all- we are not focused on writing in Health class, we are focused on the conversation and the discussion of the topic at hand.
Below you will find out about our "projects". We offer these as a choice throughout Health class during 5th and 6th grade. Projects are not required but can be used as an option instead of the written test.
Students will need to follow a rubric in order to meet the requirements for these projects. Rubrics are found in the class packets.
If a student does not want to do a project, they must complete a unit test at the end of each unit of study.
5th grade -- PROJECTS:
First Aid and Safety- First Aid kit. Please don't buy anything special. Keep this real simple. A decorated shoe box is excellent. If you already have a first aid kit at home or in a car- just make sure it's organized and send it on in!!
Human Growth and Development- Google Slides presentation or poster on hygiene. (follow rubric from packet).
Act Now (bullying)- no project- online pre and post test must be completed.
It's UR Choice(alcohol and other drugs)- no project-online pre and post test must be completed.
