Welcome to 5th Grade Advanced Math! In the Advanced Math classes, we still follow the standards for the fifth grade, but we are able to move more quickly and go deeper in our understanding of mathematical concepts. This allows us to participate in some additional problem-solving, project-based, and enrichment activities.
Something that may be new to you this year is Ike's building-wide policy for re-testing.
Students can request to retake a test. When a "Request to Retest" form is filled out, I will meet with anyone who wishes to retake a test. We will do some re-teaching and review, and I will suggest other activities which may be helpful to improving the student's understanding of the concepts. After those activities are completed, and the student and a parent sign the form, the student can re-take the test and the new grade will go in the grade book. It is building policy that re-takes cannot be taken during the last week of the quarter.
