About Me

I am excited to be your teacher this year and look forward to helping you prepare for High School. Let me begin by telling you a little about myself. My name is Mr. Matthew Gugino. I was born and raised in Western New York. I am married to a talented public school educator and a proud father of two wonderful children. This will be my 25th year of teaching in North Carolina. I am a proud graduate of the State University of New York College at Brockport, where I earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in History. Shortly after graduating, I moved to North Carolina and began teaching at Southern Middle School in Person County. While teaching there, I earned my Graduate Degree in Secondary Social Studies from North Carolina Central University in 2003 and was recognized as a National Board Certified educator in 2007. My next stop was in Alamance County where I taught at Woodlawn Middle School for two full years. In addition to teaching, I have had the privilege of coaching middle school students over the past two decades. Currently, I serve as the Assistant Athletic Director, Boy’s Cross Country Coach, and Boys Varsity Basketball coach. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, volunteering, travelling, as well as participating in a variety of outdoor and athletic activities.
