Finishing

After you finish carving your bowl, it's time to begin the finishing process. The more time put into the finish process, the better your bowl will look. Like any wood working project, we begin with a coarse grit sand paper, and work our way up to smoother and smoother grits.

Of course, for and sanding we must always wear a dust mask!

Start with 80 grit sand paper, make sure you take the time to remove all scrapes and scratches from your bowl before you progress from this grit to the next. Finer grit sand paper will not be remove any major scrapes, so make sure all scrapes have been removed before moving up to a finer grit sand paper. If available, start with 80 grit, then 120 and 240 to finish. TAKE YOUR TIME.

After the sanding is complete, use the air chuck to blow any excess saw dust off of your bowl before applying the salad bowl finish.

To apply, simply use some paper towel to apply to your bowl, and then use a dry towel to rub off any excess. Now, take a moment to enjoy what you have created, and be proud!
