Week 1: Sept 2-5, 2014
Sept 2: Link Crew Activities. No class.
Sept 3: We discussed the course outline and classroom procedures (see links on main CGC1P.PS page).
We then looked at a map of Canada and began discussing Map Requirements
Sept 4: We handed out textbooks. A reminder: bring it with you everyday.
We reviewed map requirements.
We took notes on What is a Map?
Sept 5: We worked on completing a Political Map of Canada. Instructions are found here.

Week 2: Sept 8-12, 2014 (Students' Council Welcome Week)
Sept 8: We took board notes on Compass Directions and distinguished between Compass Points and Compass Bearings. See Mrs. Jamieson (EA) for
copies of the notes.
We filled in a diagram illustrating compass points and compass bearings.
We took notes on Map Scales.
Sept 9: We practiced skills learned yesterday. We worked on questions related to compass points and compass bearings. We began questions
related to map scales. In both cases, paper handouts were given in class.
Sept 10: We went over answers to yesterday's map scale problems.
We learned about Grid Systems
We worked on the Alphanumeric Grid (paper handout in class).

Week 3: Sept 15 - 19
Sept 15: We learned about the Military Grid and how it is more precise than the Alphanumeric Grid

Sept 16: We went over military grid worksheet then began discussion of latitude and longitude (paper handouts in class)
Sept 17: We worked with the atlases and learned of the significance of the Earth's tilt and rotation.
Sept 18: Worksheet using latitude and longitude (paper handouts in class).
Week 4: Sept 22-26
Sept 22: We worked on a Cross Country travel exercise using our knowledge of latitude and longitude (paper handout in class)
Sept 23: We completed yesterday's work and began a discussion of time zones.
Sept 24: We did more work on time zones. Students created a map of Canada's time zones.
Sept 25: Completed time zone work and What is Geography?
Sept 26: Viewing of Planet Earth Episode "Mountains"
Week 5: Sept 29- Oct. 3
Sept 29: Discussion of What is Geography package. Students classify items into Human world or Physical world.
