In 2005 Mike Schubach and Charlie Parod started high school rugby teams on their respective sides of the river. Peoria Area Renegades (PAR) had such future Piggies as Evan Smith (son of Tommy) and Spenser Schubach, two future MVP's. The Morton Pound produced future Piggies as well. In 2006 the All Reds RFC was formed for Woodford County players, and Chillicothe formed the Barbarians RFC. 2008 saw the Twin City Tornadoes out of Bloomington under Rory O'Rourke and the Springfield Junior Celts under Jim Carlberg. Quad Cities and Muscatine also fielded teams. In 2012 TR Sparenberg embarked on a quest to introduce flag rugby to over 2000 middle school kids in Central Illinois.
Your donations to the Peoria Rugby Foundation will help these existing teams -- as well as future startups -- to spread the game of rugby throughout Central Illinois.
