Nottingham School Counseling- Kindergarten- 4th Grade Services
Classroom Guidance: Grades K-4 have classroom guidance lessons on various topics using our Spotlight Skills, which are social skills (i.e. active listening, patience, empathy, kindness, etc), executive function skills, making and keeping friends, career planning, and emotional regulation. All lessons are aligned with the American School Counselors Association using Social Thinking Curriculum, Spots of Happiness and SMARTS Curriculum.
Group Counseling Small groups are a great way to make connections with peers and work on various skills. The topic and group can vary based on the needs. Most of the groups happen during lunch and/or snack time, however, some do occur outside of these times. Groups usually meet weekly and the length varies on the needs. A teacher and/or parent/guardian can make a recommendation for a small group.
Individual Counseling: At times there can be a need for students to have individual counseling. In some circumstances, it is part of the recommendations of our special education team, and counseling services are built into a student's IEP. In other circumstances, a parent/guardian or teacher may refer a student for individual counseling to support them with a particular need. This service is offered for six weeks, and at that time if further counseling is needed the family is provided with a list of local outside therapists to seek further support.*
MTSS-B Tiered Support : Using our MTSS model, resources and services can be provided for those with behavioral and emotional needs. Through our MTSS-B team, we meet and collaborate on how to best support students who are in need. as well as put tiered supports in place.
*Nottingham School has a partnership with Seacoast Mental Health to come and provide counseling to students within the school setting based on referrals from the guidance department
