Nathanael Smale

Nathanael Smale grew up near Cedar Rapids, IA in a musical family.  He was highly involved in musical activities, including private voice, piano, & percussion lessons, community & school theatre, community youth chorus, and more.  He earned his Bachelor of Music Education ('18) and Master of Music in Choral Conducting ('21) from Simpson College in Indianola, IA. 


Mr. Smale taught for one year in the Indianola Community School District, where he taught K-5 General Music, 5th Grade Chorus, and stage directed for the annual high school musical.  He has been at Norwalk High School ever since, where he has had the pleasure of teaching 8th-12th grade Vocal Music, directing extracurricular show choirs, and directing the annual spring musical.


In his free time, Mr. Smale enjoys spending time with friends, trying new restaurants/cuisines, exploring the rich repertoire of musical theatre, and reading a great novel.  He is also a proud member of the semi-proffesional community choir, the Des Moines Vocal Arts Ensemble.

Jacie Ommen

Jacie Ommen grew up in the small-town of Rockwell City. She graduated from Rockwell City- Lytton High School (‘09), earned her Associate of Arts Degree from Iowa Central Community College (‘13), a Bachelor of Music Education from Simpson College (‘15) and finally her Masters of Arts in Teaching (21’) from Morningside College. Throughout her time in college she was involved in collegiate choir, show choir, vocal jazz, band, jazz band, marching band and brass ensemble. 


Mrs. Ommen taught for seven years in the Woodward Granger Community School District, where she directed 6th-12th grade vocal music, vocal jazz, show choir, directed & choreographed the high school musical, and was the Head Speech coach. 


In her free time, Mrs. Ommen enjoys playing Disc Golf competitively, going to musicals, spending time with friends and family, and gardening. 




Jennifer Schaff

Jenny Schaff grew up in small-town Murray, IA in a musical family, taking lessons and performing with her 6 cousins. Miss Schaff was involved in choir and band all through school.  She took piano lessons with her grandma, mom, and then at Simpson College in high school, as well as private voice and flute lessons.  Miss Schaff earned her Associates of Arts degree at Southwestern Community College (‘98), Bachelor of Music Education (‘01) and Masters of Music (‘06) from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO.


Miss Schaff taught for one year in the Braymer Community School District, teaching K-12 Vocal Music. She then taught PK-12 Band and Vocal Music at Northeast Nodaway Schools. After working at NWMSU as an accompanist during her time working on her master’s degree, she started at Norwalk High School in 2006 and has played for middle school and high school choirs, show choirs, and musicals.


Miss Schaff is a “gramma” to 3 step-grandkids, has 2 step-daughters and a step-son. She  is an avid Disney lover and sells Pampered Chef, loves to camp and read in her spare time.
