The Tall Tree Award is given out every two years to an outstanding fiction book chosen by students in grades 4 and 5. As a tall tree towers above the others in the forest, the Tall Tree Award winner stands high above the crop of recent children’s book titles.
Books eligible for the award should be recently published titles (copyright date within 5 years of current year). Authors who have won the award in the past cannot win again. A book that has won the Newbery Award (gold medal) cannot receive the Tall Tree Award.
The first two Tall Tree Awards were made possible by donations from Reader’s Digest which included book purchases and the beautiful award posters that hang in the PQ Library. The program is now made possible through the generous support of the North Salem Elementary PTO.
