Home/Hospital instruction is the delivery of special education services that are assessed on an individual basis for a student with a disability confined to their home, hospital or other institution because of a disability. This also applies to students with a short term disability caused by a medical need.
A stamped official doctor’s note with a start and end date is required for medically based Homebound Instruction. Homebound Instruction may include:
Minimum hours per week
Elementary (grades K-6): At least 10 hours per week, with a daily goal of at least 2 hours if possible.
Secondary (grades 7-12): At least 15 hours per week, with a daily goal of at least 3 hours if possible.
Related services based on IEP mandates.
Students who are awaiting placement may be assigned, on an interim basis and with their parent’s consent, to alternate-site instruction. This instruction is identical to home teaching except that the actual instruction takes place outside the home.
Please contact the Special Services Department at 845-942-3430 for further information regarding the procedures for Homebound Instruction. The fax number to send documentation is: 845-942-3495. Please ensure that the student’s name and information is on the documentation before sending.
