Norms & Goals
Norms
All norms will be read at the start of each meeting by the President of the Northern Cass School Board or the board member conducting the meeting.
All meetings will be conducted according to the best practices governing a Board of Education.
All members will participate in board discussions in a respectful manner which honors the different perspectives.
All board members will equally participate in making motions, seconding motions, and voting on each motion.
All meetings will abide by the policies which govern Northern Cass School District #97.
All members will follow the agenda and ensure discussion is focused only on the agreed items in the approved agenda.
Goals
All board members are strongly encouraged to spend time observing learning centers (2 hours elementary, 2 hours middle school, and 2 hours high school during the 2023-24 school year) .
The board will utilize self-evaluation at August retreat.
All members will issue Greatness Cards or another form of recognition to Northern Cass educators, learners, and patrons to celebrate successes throughout the school year.
Provide regular education to stakeholders on the appropriate roles and responsibilities of the Board of Education and include link to minutes in weekly memo.
Each board member will attend one training as provided by the North Dakota School Board's Association.
The President and Vice President will met with the Northern Cass Education Association throughout the school year to prepare for contract negotiations.
Each Board of Education will continue to make culture a focus by providing funding to continue the formal assessment of the culture at Northern Cass.

Initial communication will be sent to ncboard@northerncassschool.com. This is for instances when stakeholders have a general question/concern. Individual emails for board members will still be available.
Each board member will reply individually if they have received the email.
The board president will email with follow-up steps and a recognition from all members as a courtesy/acknowledgement they have been heard.
The board president will then send a copy of the correspondence to all board members so they are aware of what was communicated.
