An expected Holi celebration in Edinburgh

Holi was on 8th March 2012 this year in India. We tried to celebrate the festival with available limited resources... The resources were really limited this time... The most essential thing of this festival of color was missing, i.e. COLOR. We didn’t get color anywhere in Edinburgh and we were left to celebrate it with Turmeric powder. So on Holi day we applied turmeric powder to each other and felt happy that we celebrated Holi… The very same day when I was desperately searching for Holi colors on internet, I found that there will be a celebration in Edinburgh on 11th March. This function is supposed to be organized by Scottish Indian arts forum (SIAF).

We were looking forward for this function as this was the only hope left to get colors, dance and masti.

Since it was Sunday we did nothing except waiting for the clock to tell us its 2 PM. It was at a walking distance from our place in Stockbridge so we walked to the place. The first sight was some Indian faces in Kurtas and we realized we reached the place.

The charges were Pound 8.00 for one person. It included food, color and most importantly FUN.

We moved to a big hall where lots of Indians were already dancing with their red faces. A few Scottish people were also there. I observed this in other SIAF functions during Dashehara also that a good no of local people come and enjoy the Indian way of celebrations.

A nice DJ played some good peppy nos and we danced a lot. Time to time the organizers was bringing color also and were distributing. No outside color was allowed inside and it was all dry Gulal, no fast colors. We applied colors and it felt really good to see each other in red color. I felt really good because I had almost lost hope for color this time.

After some time we had food and danced more. Slowly time passed and fun got over at 5 PM as the function time was till 5 PM only. We headed back to home in lot of satisfaction that we enjoyed Holi… We also made some friends also during this fun.

Food was the only downside, it was not good but then we didn’t go there to have some amazing food J We went there to have fun and we had a lot of fun there.

It is sometimes fun to get in a queue and get food. DJ was surely awesome but to entertain a good no of Punjabi people he played lot of those songs which we never heard but people really enjoyed them.  Lot of Indian students joined there and it reminded our college days.

And this ended another colorful day of our life. The Holi 2012
