Health Care
New teachers will be fully covered from August 1st as per the initial start date of contract.
Teachers will need to individually provide their own temporary cover prior to this date.
General Information:
Medical and dental care in Cambodia, though limited, is ever-improving.
The Royal Phnom Penh Hospital (staffed and operated by the highly recognized Bangkok Hospital of Thailand) has a reputation as a quality medical facility.
Raffles Medical Clinic (formerly owned by International SOS) is also a quality medical facility with Western doctors.
Vaccinations - Due to the incidence of hepatitis (both A and B), rabies and Japanese Encephalitis in Cambodia, we suggest that people coming to live and work at in Phnom Penh consider getting vaccinations for these diseases before arriving, although the vaccinations are generally much less expensive here in Phnom Penh. Other preventative treatment – for typhoid, for example – is up to the employee. It is always better to be safe than take chances. Specific recommendations for vaccinations can be found at the CDC website,
http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/cambodia
Other Health Concerns - Dengue fever, malaria and other mosquito borne diseases are present in various parts of Cambodia and need to be guarded against. This can be accomplished quite easily by vigilant use of repellants and avoidance of mosquito-infested areas.

Pharmacies - In Phnom Penh there are some good pharmacies – eg U Care, Raffles and De La Gare. At these drug stores you can buy many over-the-counter medicines (such as cough syrup, headache tablets, etc.). It is advisable, though, to bring your own prescription medication or vitamin supplies as the stock is limited and quality can be unpredictable. Lucky, Bayon, Thai Huot, Aeon and Super Duper sell shampoos, toothpaste, shaving cream and so on. They stock virtually any product you could purchase in the US, Canada, Australia or Europe. Since it is likely that none of these stores may carry an individual’s specific preferred brand, we suggest that teachers coming to Cambodia for the first time bring a supply of their favorite or necessary items.
