Specially Designed Academics (SDA)
Our SDA programs are designed to meet the unique needs of each child while using research based practices in conjunction with individualized instruction. Classroom staff work closely with related services to provide students with the tools they need to best access their school and community. The programs are designed and equipped for students to work toward academic, vocational, and recreational skills as they move through the grade levels.
Students in our SDA programs are working on the Extensions of the Standard Course of Study. Course of Study is considered at every Annual IEP meeting. If a student remains on the Extensions of the Standard Course of Study they will complete their career in public school with a certificate of participation rather than a high school diploma.
The New Hanover County School System allocates the SDA programs regionally to meet the needs of all students across the district. Please see the list of schools below.
