Participation in Canvas or classroom discussions
Be on time.
Test your microphone/audio connection and camera (if you have one) ahead of time. You will, at the very least, need an audio connection.
Pay attention to what’s “in the frame” - you are essentially inviting your teacher and classmates over.
Dress appropriately.
Be aware of your body language and expressions. Stay engaged while others are talking.
Eliminate interruptions to your physical space - parents, siblings, and pets can create distractions for you and your classmates.
Turn off your notifications and silence your phones. It's a good idea to keep your phone out of reach during instruction unless your teacher has asked you to use it to participate.
To minimize distractions for other learners, turn your mic off. Only turn it on when you need to ask a question or offer a comment, response to your teacher. Otherwise, wait for the teacher to call on you.
If your audio or video is "glitchy" when talking, turn off the video feed while speaking.
