Grading Policy
Starting in third-grade, families have access to PowerSchool to receive updates on current grades and attendance. Parent access forms with codes and directions will be sent home within the first few weeks of school. This is very important if you want to look at your child’s grades throughout the school year.
The grading scale is mandated by New Hanover County Schools. Therefore, students receive numerical grades and letter grades that are reflected by A, B, C, D, and F letter grades on report cards. The grading scale is:
100-90 A
89-80 B
79-70 C
69-60 D
Below 60 F
Progress Reports and Report Cards
Progress reports will be sent home in the middle of each nine weeks and report cards at the end of each 9 weeks. This is to help you monitor your child’s academic progress. Please make sure to review the report and sign the letter attached. You may keep any reports sent home for your records.
Parent/Teacher Communication
The primary way the third-grade team will communicate with parents is via email. Every week, a Smore grade level newsletter will be sent out to parents detailing learning topics, important dates, possible volunteer opportunities, and any school news. Our teaching hours are from 7:30-3:00 and emails can expect a return within 24 hours M-F. Friday emails will receive a response on the following school day. Students will also have a yellow Take Home Tuesday folder where they bring home any graded work from the previous week. It is requested that each parent sign the sheet in the folder and remove all papers before returning it to school with their child on Wednesday.
