My  Spring Classes:

1st period: Honors EPF

2nd period: EPF

3rd period: Planning

4th period: Civic Literacy

ABOUT THE TEACHER:

My name is Lindsay Noble.  This is my 23rd year as an educator.  Originally from Tennessee, I graduated from the University of Tennessee with an undergrad degree in History and a Masters in Secondary Education.  I have taught in both Tennessee and North Carolina.  This is my ninth year as a Hoggard Viking 🙌.  I became a teacher because of my love of history which has now carried over into other subjects such as civics, economics and personal finance.  I also enjoy forming relationships with students and assisting them along the way of their personal growth journey into adulthood.  And I also love my summers! ☀️🌴✈️

In my non-teaching life I enjoy spending time with my 8 year old daughter and husband.  We love being outside, playing with our puppies, gardening, playing sports, watching Star Wars, Avengers, and Harry Potter, traveling, playing games, building Legos and going to concerts.  And my blood runs 🍊  Go Vols!

CLASSROOM GUIDELINES

be positive and respectful by practicing tolerance and patience.

participate and complete their own work.

work diligently and utilize time wisely in class and at home.

be timely to class and with completed assignments and necessary materials ready to go as the bell rings.

Hoggard Student Handbook

HALL PASS/BATHROOM

Please ask first at an appropriate time.  Take the pass hanging next to my door.  Please only go to the location indicated on the pass and return promptly.  One in, one out.

ELECTRONICS POLICIES: see Hoggard Cell Phone Policy

All students will place their phones in the shoe organizer hanging on my closet door.  If a student is in dire need of a phone they may ask permission to use it.  If a parent needs to reach his/her child they may speak with them in between classes or call the main office and ask for my room.  The only exceptions will be for medical reasons discussed personally with me.

DAILY AGENDA AND ASSIGNMENTS

I will have my daily agenda posted in Canvas on a planbook calendar each day.  Most assignments will be posted and submitted in Canvas.  This is the best place to go to see what you have missed if you have been absent.  You can also access any important info, presentations, learning targets and reminders on my calendar.  I have my Canvas set to automatically take off 10% each day something is late (after 4 days you may receive a 50 as the highest grade).   You will need to alert me if you need more time because of illness or any other excused absence and I will add the points back. I typically allow the amount of days missed to make up any assignments.

See my Helpful Resources page for more info and helpful tips on Canvas or 1 to 1 info.

Civics Interactive Notebook (see my Civics Page)

FLEX: Under normal circumstances we have a 30 minute period each week for our class so that you can get tutoring, make up tests and quizzes or complete a re-take of a test/quiz.  Schedule:

Monday: 1st period Flex

Tuesday: 2nd period Flex

Wednesday: 3rd period Flex

Thursday: 4th period Flex

Friday: Homeroom

Practice Good Habits

Be present and be on time with a good attitude ready to learn.  There is a consequence continuum that Hoggard uses when students are late to class that results in parent contact and eventual office referrals.

Don't cheat: This day and age with the advent of smart phones and AI it is easier than ever before for students to be tempted to cheat.  While this may go undiscovered on occasion, you are creating bad habits that will be very difficult to overcome as you progress into adulthood.  Integrity goes a long way in my class and in the working world.  Please do your own work and use your own brain so that you can learn the invaluable material in this class.

What I do not tolerate (and results in a zero):

-copying off of someone else's work (paper copy or picture on a phone)

-copying/pasting work on electronic docs

-aiding and abetting a cheater (allowing someone to cheat off of you)

-talking during tests/quizzes

-literally copying and pasting another student's or author's work w/out acknowledging the source, etc.

-using AI to complete an assignment (not just as an assisting tool)

*Any student caught cheating in my class will have a parent/guardian contacted, be recorded in Educator's Handbook and receive an automatic 0.

GRADES:

Obviously grades are a very important piece of the reflection process to gauge the understanding and retention of important concepts in any high school class.  Not everything we do, however, will be graded.  Students should anticipate that all of the things we do in class are considered impertinent to the learning of the curriculum.  The knowledge of material will be demonstrated on both formative and summative assessments.

Honors Grading Categories:

-Daily grades: participation and activities 25%

-Quizzes: 25%

-Tests and Projects: 50%

General Grading Categories:

-Daily grades: participation and activities 30%

-Quizzes: 30%

-Tests and Projects: 40%

Overall grades are calculated as such: 1st 9 weeks: 40%; 2nd 9 weeks: 40%; teacher-made final assessment: 20%

Please familiarize yourself with the New Hanover County Grading Policy for further clarification

New Hanover County requires that students miss no more than 10 days in a class each semester.  Missing over 10 will result in an automatic failure for the class.  Both Civic Literacy and Economics and Personal Finance are required for graduation. Please see the school board's attendance policy for further clarification.
