?? F.A.Q. ??
What are the school hours? The bell rings at 7:40 a.m. We begin dismissal at 2:25. If your child arrives late or needs to leave early, parents MUST check him/her in/out in the office. Car riders are dismissed from the classroom. Parents MUST remain in their cars and stay in the pick-up line to get their child. You will receive ID cards to be placed on your car dashboard. If the person picking your child up does not have a card they will need to come into the office, be on your child’s pick up list and then show id to sign your child out.
May I walk my child to class in the morning? Only during the first week of school you may walk your child to class. This school policy is for the safety of all of our students. Unfortunately, having multitudes of unidentifiable adults in the building in the morning presents a safety risk as well as impedes the progress of starting the school day on time. Fostering independence in your child in this instance and letting him/her know that you have confidence in their ability to get to class also greatly cuts down any separation issues. Teachers are on duty in the hallways to assist any child who may need help.
Do students have a snack time? Yes, we have a snack in the afternoon. Please provide a healthy snack for your child each day. They may also bring a water bottle that does not spill to be kept at their seat.
Do the folders need to be returned? Yes! We will send home a daily communication folder. This folder will need to be returned to school each day. Please place ALL important papers in this folder. On Friday, we will send home your child’s work in this same folder. Please remove all papers and return the folder on Monday.
What do I do if my child misses school? The next day they return to school they should have a note explaining why they were absent. (If possible we need a doctor's note). Examples of excused absences are sickness and death in the family. Examples of unexcused absences are going out of town and missing the bus.
Can I come to visit the classroom? Parent volunteers are a big part of our learning community in the classroom. However, at the beginning of the year we have found it better if parents did not visit too frequently. This gives us a chance to establish the difference between home and school, especially if your child has difficulty leaving you in the morning. All volunteers will need to attend a volunteer training session. Please look for that information in the upcoming weeks.
Lunch Money? The cost is $2.00 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch. Please complete a lunch application @ www.myschoolapps.com
If I need to change the way my child gets home, what do I do? We need a hand-written note from a parent/guardian if their transportation home changes. PLEASE DO NOT give the note to your child to give to us, sometimes those notes never make it to us. Make sure the note is written clearly with when the change will occur and for how long and place it in your child’s folder. If an emergency change occurs during the school day, you must call the office BEFORE 1:30 p.m. and let the office know of the change and they will contact us. PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL ME OR LEAVE ME A VOICEMAIL with a transportation change. There are days where I do not get to my email or voicemail until after the children have left for the day. JUST A REMINDER THAT ANY TRANSPORTATION CHANGES WILL NOT BE MADE AFTER 2:00 P.M.
Does my child have homework? Children work hard enough in school and should have the opportunity to relax, engage in activities of their choice and have quality family time after school. I do not give out homework, but offer our students occasional home projects to complete with their families so as to enhance our thematic units and build on the home-school connection. I believe that these types of projects provide an opportunity for parents to talk to their children about what they are learning in school while simultaneously spending much needed quality time together. In addition to the projects, you can work on things such as writing their name, letters, and numbers. You can also work on recognizing letter sounds, reading and writing their Kindergarten core words. MOST importantly, read with your child EVERY day!! We have a school library full of books for them to read!
Can I send in a special snack for my child's birthday? Yes! We would love to celebrate your child's birthday. There are a few guidelines you need to follow. Everything should be store bought and prepackaged. Please make arrangements with the teacher before the special day.
WE ARE SO EXCITED TO HAVE YOUR CHILD IN OUR CLASSROOM THIS YEAR!
