Ms. Lowell's Classroom Information
Arrival/Dismissal
Arrival time: 7:10
Dismissal Time: 2:15
Arrival: If your child is coming to school in a car, proceed through the car traffic circle and bus and van riders will be met at their designated location by a staff member. There will also be staff in the hallways to help guide students to classrooms.
Please check here for bus routes: https://www.nhcs.net/divisions/operations/transportation/bus-routes
Dismissal: All students will receive a tag to hang in their cars so staff can call for them when dismissed to their car. Please have this hanging on your mirror before arriving to the car rider line. We have a large number of car pick up students, so please arrive early. If your child is riding home on the bus, a parent or an adult aged family member must be at the bus stop for your child to be dropped off. Please read all the information carefully on the transportation site listed above. After school daycare students will remain in the school until the daycare van is there to pick them up. Parents should contact their daycare to request a pickup on their specific days and times at Codington.
Transportation changes: If your child is going home a different way than usual, please message me on Seesaw, email, and contact the office the day before or early the next day (no later than 12:00). I am teaching and have very little time to check email, so the earlier the better.
Breakfast/Lunch/Snack/Water Bottles:
There are breakfast and lunch options for all students. A student lunch account must be set up to purchase breakfast or lunch, except for the first week of school. Students may bring in lunch money in a (labeled with your child's name and my name) Ziploc bag for the first week or if you would prefer to just send in money weekly.
You may set up an account here: myschoolbucks.com
Breakfast and lunch prices for this year:
Breakfast-$2.00 Reduced-Free
Lunch-$3.50 Reduced-.40
Check the NHCS website for monthly year round school lunch calendars. https://nhcschildnutrition.com/
* Please notify me if your child has a food allergy!
Breakfast: Students may eat breakfast before they go to their classroom. Please arrive a little early to allow your child to eat and get to the classroom before the 7:40 tardy bell.
Lunch: If your child brings his/her lunch to school, please pack things that they can easily open independently. I will not be eating with the students, but there will be limited staff to assist with opening containers and packages as needed. One of our main goals for Kindergarten is to become an independent and self sufficient learner. With a little practice, most can achieve that within a short amount of time. If your child does not have a lunch bag/box, he/she will make a lunch choice as soon as they come into the classroom. Go to NHCS site and look for lunch calendars under the Students & Parents tab.
Daily Snack: We will have a snack in the afternoon. Send a SMALL snack labeled with your child’s name either in a designated snack bag or labeled with the word "SNACK". Often students do not know the difference and will try to eat snack at lunch time. 😊
Water Bottle: Send a water bottle (labeled with first and last name) to school with your child daily. We will use them during recess, snack, and as needed throughout the day.
Birthday Treats: Please contact me a week before you would like to send in a treat. Treats must be store bought and should be small in size. Mini cupcakes, an ice cream cup, or a wrapped healthy snack are all good choices. It would also be helpful to send napkins with the treat.
Daily Schedule: I have posted our daily schedule on my teacher page and Seesaw. We will have specials (Art, Library, Music, & P.E.) throughout the week. Also, please check my teacher page & Seesaw for classroom information, school events and dates, newsletters, and a variety of resources. https://sites.google.com/a/nhcs.net/kristilowell/ .
Bathrooms: We are lucky to have a bathroom and sink in our classroom. We will use these facilities throughout the day unless there is an emergency. Please send extra underwear & clothing in a labeled Ziploc bag for any accidents.
Supplies: My supply list will be given to you at Open House and is posted under the Supplies tab. There are are specific supplies that will need to be labeled with your child's name and in a Ziploc bag. The other supplies will not need to be labeled. It also includes a "wish list" and it is NOT mandatory to purchase any of the items on the list. Please send those supplies in with your child as soon as possible. If you would like, you may drop them off earlier in the office or bring them to Open House.
Purple Folders: Purple folders will go home daily. Your child’s work, daily behavior (a calendar in the back sleeve of the folder), and important forms/ notes will be in the folder. Please check it and send it back to school every day. The calendar in the back cover will list scheduled school events and will share how your child’s day was at school.
Purple- Personal best: A student followed directions and demonstrated Codington C.A.R.E. throughout the day
Yellow- Warning: A student had difficulty following directions, needed more than 2 reminders about making a better choice throughout the day, or was unkind to classmates/teachers.
Orange- Take a Breather: This was needed due to a student repeatedly having difficulty/refusing to follow directions, needed more than 3 reminders about making a better choice throughout the day, or was unkind to classmates/teachers. We will send a note/email or will call a parent if your child receives this color.
Red- Bounced: A student will spend a time out in another room, in the office with administration, or the school counselor. This would occur if a student has "Taken a Breather" several times, is continually having difficulty/refusing to follow directions, needed numerous reminders about making a better choice throughout the day, or was unkind to classmates/teachers. We will send a note/email/reflection sheet or will call a parent if your child receives this color.

Volunteers are required take the New Hanover County volunteer training to help in the classroom, volunteer for school events, or if you want to attend a field trip. There are two levels of volunteers. Please read over everything carefully! Although it is not required, I highly recommend that volunteers go through the Level 2 training.
