About Me

About me

Welcome Wrightsboro families and students!  My name is Kelly Cotter.  This will be my nineteenth-year teaching and eighth year at Wrightsboro!  I have been working in New Hanover County for fifteen years as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher.  Prior to NC, I taught first grade in Washington, DC for four years.  I moved to NC in 2009 with my husband.  He was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and served for 8 ½ years.  He has earned his bachelor's degree in Anthropology and a postgraduate degree in Forensic Science.  We are blessed with two kids.  My son is a very curious and happy four-year-old and my 1-year-old daughter loves to run around and copy everything she sees and hears! We love Wilmington and glad we have settled down in the Port City.

Prior to teaching I studied literature at Rutgers University in NJ, my home state, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English and minor in Psychology.  I went on to earn my Master’s degree in elementary education from George Washington University in Washington, DC.

Teaching is my passion!  I love being able to inspire children to become leaders and lifelong learners!  I come from a large family.  I have four younger brothers!  In our house education was a priority!  My father always told us, "The one thing no one can ever take away from you is your education!"  I pass this along to my students every year!

Photography is also another passion of mine!  It has been a hobby of mine since I was a senior in high school!  I love telling stories through photos!  There are so many to tell!  I look forward to working with our upcoming third grade Wrightsboro families and students!
