Homework
Assignments will be posted on an electronic site such as Google Classroom, articulated during class time and posted within the classroom. A strict adherence to due dates will be followed. Excused absences will extend the due date. Unexcused absences will not extend the due date and late work will not be accepted. Extenuating circumstances will be considered on an individual basis. Please communicate early with me, as I understand obligations and unforeseen incidents do arise. I make every effort to give advanced notice of assignments and due dates.
Writing
Students will be expected to craft an articulate, mechanically sound, purposeful piece of writing with a specific audience in mind while expressing the appropriate tone. Self evaluations and reflections, along with peer editing and teacher guidance will build the writing skills of each individual. Plagiarism will not be tolerated or accepted.
Speaking/Listening
Communication is critical to promote success. Speaking and listening skills will be taught and reinforced throughout the year in a variety of ways. A major component of the listening skills will be note-taking. Note checks will occur regularly as a grade. In addition, notes will serve as an excellent resource for developing study skills. My expectation is that all notes are taken in a legible form otherwise I will be limited in my ability to grade them. It is also my expectation that students do not interfere with their peers learning. This means that side conversations at inappropriate times will not be permitted and may result in behavior referrals if there becomes a pattern.
Materials
I will use a variety of resources and will make every attempt to have these resources available to students electronically and, when needed, in hard copy format. Every student must come to class prepared to learn. Part of this includes having the necessary materials to actively participate in class. These materials include at the very least: something to write with and something to write on. Continual unpreparedness will negatively affect a student's grade. If assistance is needed with materials please contact me or the school's social worker.
