On a daily basis, individual students are verbally praised, given high fives, and given stickers each time I want to reward their behavior. They may also earn a ticket to be placed in a drawing to pull from our treasure box. A positive note might also be sent home to share this great behavior with you.
Each small group table is also given the opportunity to earn points for cooperation, team work, listening, cleanliness, etc. At the end of the week, the table with the most earned points will receive a special reward for their team work. When the entire class has been given a compliment or has done their best work as a whole group, they are given a bear for the compliment jar. When they fill the compliment jar, they can vote on the reward that they receive. Some of the things that are normally chosen are special snacks, extra recess, P.J. day, etc.
The class will begin their personal behavior journey. All students will start each day ready to learn. My expectation is that ALL students will show self-responsibility and make choices that will allow them to reach the blue-level. They will be given the opportunity throughout the day to move up. If a negative behavior occurs, the child will be given a verbal reminder about making a better choice.
After the second occurrence of an inappropriate behavior, we will have a conference to discuss why the behavior occurred (reason), why he or she was disruptive or unsafe. During this discussion alternate behaviors will be brainstormed. At this point the student will not be able move their clip to the next level.
If his or her behavior occurs a third time, I will then pull the child aside and reinforce the first conference. Their mountain climber will not be able to move into the next level. The student will then fill out a “think sheet” to help reinforce positive choices. If the behavior continues, I would send a note home or make a phone call to discuss this with you.
There will be a daily conduct report on the back of your child’s folder. Each afternoon, he/she will color in the square according to the level of behavior they achieved at school. Please initial at the bottom each night. The students and I are very excited to really begin to show how responsible we can be for our own actions and behaviors.
If you have any question, please do not hesitate to ask.
