John T. Hoggard Diploma Programme

IB Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

John T Hoggard Mission Statement

The mission of John T. Hoggard High School is to ensure all students will become productive, responsible, independent, life-long learners who adapt and succeed in a democratic, diverse, global environment.

Purpose

The IB Diploma Program is an accelerated and demanding, pre-university course of studies for highly motivated students. The curriculum is based on standards set by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) in Switzerland. The goal of IB is to help students learn how to learn, analyze, and reach considered conclusions about society and the world in which we live. Although recommended, it is not a requirement that a student be identified as Academically Gifted in order to apply or participate. While it is understood that parents or guardians might want their child to participate in the IB DP, experience has shown that the student has to also be motivated to participate fully in order to benefit from and excel in the program.

Students interested in John T. Hoggard’s IB Diploma Program should be able to demonstrate the following:

· Intellectual curiosity and a strong aptitude for learning

· A successful academic record (to include enrollment in all honors classes where available)

· A willingness to take academic risks and to reflect on the nature of knowledge

· An ability and willingness to undertake independent research

· An ability and willingness to undertake projects and activities that often involve community service

· Strong academic and personal integrity

· Consistent school attendance and engagement
