My name is Hannah Moon and here are a few facts about me:

• I am the 2025 NC Southeast Regional Teacher of the Year! 

• I am a member of the Governor's Teacher Advisory Council

• I have been teaching for 21 years

• I have taught all 21 years here at Laney! 

• I am married to Mr. Moon (who teaches history here at Laney)

• I have 2 kids--an 11 year old boy and a 6 year old girl

•  I was born in Chicago, Illinois.

• I graduated from UNCW with a degree in English Literature, a teaching certificate, and a Master's Degree in Education

• I received my National Board Certification in 2021. 

• I love to read, shop, travel, eat, and exercise.

• I have 3 cats--Ginger Pickles, Zeus, & Midnight. 

• The last book I read was Demon Copperhead

• The show I am currently watching is Beast Games. 

• My favorite show is The Office or Ted Lasso.

• 3 words to describe me are stubborn, intelligent, and meticulous. 

I LOVE teaching! I firmly believe that every student can succeed. Success takes effort and hard work, and I am here to guide you on the path to success. However, I cannot do it for you; you must be willing to give your all. 

I have a few tips on how to be successful in my class:

1. Trust me.

   1. I know what I'm doing. I will not steer you in the wrong direction. So, let me help you!

2. Participate

   1. Don't sit there like a bump on a log. It's your one time in my class, so be vocal! Express your opinions! Speak up! 

3. Do the work

   1. I refuse to "give" you a grade; you will earn your grade in my class. So, do the work. 

4. Have fun

   1. It's English class, not neurosurgery, so chill out a bit. Have fun making collages. Laugh at jokes. Get artsy-fartsy on assignments. Get excited during Blookets. Be a kid.
