Under normal circumstances CHES tardy policy is as follows, but due to COVID-19, CHES tardy policy operates a little differently. If you have any questions, please call the school.
Castle Hayne Elementary has experienced a great amount of academic success since opening in 2009. You, as a parent, are a partner in your child's education; your involvement contributes to their success and achievement.
As soon as a child begins school, parents can be enlisted as partners to reinforce the benefits of regular, on-time school attendance. The school can help parents believe in and share the following messages:
The more you are in school, the more you learn.
The more you learn, the higher your grades will be.
The better your grades, the more you will enjoy school.
The longer you stay in school, the more likely you are to succeed in career and life.
As you know, our school day begins at 7:50 a.m. One of the most valuable skills a student can learn comes in taking the responsibility of arriving at school every day on time. This skill can easily be accomplished and will transfer as a valuable asset for the future. One of the most important times of the school day is the morning. This is the time when important school news is announced, teachers define the plans for the day, and instructional goals are reviewed and set. The whole tone of a child’s school day is set in the first part of the day. We ask for your support in helping your children learn habits that will help him/her be successful at school and throughout life.
SCHOOL SCHEDULE AND TARDY PROCEDURES:
7:30 a.m. Students are able to begin walking to their classrooms. Some tutoring groups begin.
7:45 a.m. Warning bell rings. All students should be in their classrooms or proceeding to the classroom. Announcements will begin promptly at 7:55 so instruction can commence immediately after.
7:50 a.m. Students arriving at this time are TARDY. Teachers do not accept students without a tardy pass from the office. Students arriving at this time should be brought in by parents/guardians/adult to the office for a tardy pass.
CONSEQUENCES FOR TARDINESS:
1st tardy - Verbal warning/notification
3rd tardy - Letter sent to parent/guardian outlining this policy.
5th tardy - Administration will be notified. Parent/Guardian and student will be required to have a conference with the School Social Worker
10th tardy - Parent/Guardian and student will be required to have a conference with the School Social Worker and Principal. An address verification investigation could be conducted and Department of Social Service or Judicial Juvenile Intake Counselor could be notified in order to help families resolve any attendance issues they may be experiencing.
Since daily attendance is mandated by law, we feel confident in knowing you will support our efforts in helping your child achieve his/her very best in school. If you are unsure about the policy, please feel free to ask. Once again, thank you for your support. If you have any further questions, please contact our office.
