About Our School:
Winter Park was established in 1912, and has a long history of excellence in educating citizens of the Wilmington community. Centrally nestled in midtown, we serve a diverse community of approximately 300 students in grades K-5. Our school mission is simple: Provide a safe, supportive, and equitable learning environment for all.
Much like our student body, our staff members possess a wide range of skills to utilize in serving our students, including 9 that are Nationally Board certified. We take pride in our ability to differentiate core and supplemental instruction in order to meet the needs of all learners:
Our school-wide D.I.V.E. time happens each morning from 8:00-8:25. During this time, all staff members are working with ALL students to Differentiate, Intervene, Validate, or Enrich, based on their individual needs.
In addition to core instructional blocks where the NC Standard Course of Study is taught, all grade levels have a Power-Up block, in which students might work with our gifted specialist, multilingual specialist, speech language pathologist, MTSS lead teacher, guidance counselor, or a grade level teacher to target specific skills.
We have a range of support staff members able to provide varying levels of intervention based on student needs, including our counselor, social worker, mental health therapist, school nurse, and more.
In addition to academics, every grade level has an enrichment block each day, in which they rotate through art, music, media, and PE. Our fifth graders participate in weekly clubs in which they learn skills like broadcasting, sewing, cooking, sports, chess, drama, chorus, and more. At various times of the year, we also offer extra curricular activities like Battle of the Books, Science Olympiad, Girls on the Run/STRIDE, and a spring musical for students to participate in!
