~ SALT ~

In 2019, Newtown High School's literary magazine transformed. For years, ROAST had celebrated students' art and writing each Spring with the publication of our annual magazine, but in 2019, the editorial staff wanted a change. After careful consideration, they decided to re-launch as SALT. The new name was selected for a variety of reasons: salt, of course, adds necessary flavor, it is used for preservation, and it has several appropriate connotations. Those published are certainly "worth one's salt," and on occasion, our staff has been known to get a little "salty."

Our mission continues to be to celebrate students' literary and artistic works in our annual publication and to foster a community of the Arts through additional events throughout the year.

Is it for me?

SALT is NOT just for writers. As a member of the editorial staff, you may submit your work at any time, but it is not a requirement. Instead, the SALT staff is made up of people who want to be in touch with or support the Arts community here at the high school. We welcome artists and writers; however, anyone who enjoys reading and critiquing writing and art can join. Strong readers and those who appreciate the Arts make the best editors. We actively seek staff members from ALL grade levels.
