COLLEGE ALGEBRA STUDENTS: Please check the "Algebra II" tab on my website for updates as we move forward through this quarter. I will be updating that page regularly and you will find all the information you will need on that page.

Friday, March 13th, 2020

Over the next three weeks coursework will take place on Study Island. You will have 1 homework assignment per week to complete. Within each assignment there are 4 Study Island sections you will need to complete. For each section you will be doing a 10 question “Practice” session. These sessions are scored. Thus, if you got 8 questions right out of the 10, your score would be an 8/10 or an 80%. Your score for each section will go in ProgressBook as a homework grade out of 10 points. If you attempt a section and do not like the score you earned, you may complete another 10 question practice session for that section to try and raise your score. You may do as many practice sessions as you like to try and raise your score. Please note, however, that if you fail the practice session multiple times then Study Island will move you down to a lower grade-level section that you will have to get a good score on and “pass” in order to bump back up to the actual section that is being graded to go into ProgressBook. Each section will be a 10 point homework grade in ProgressBook. Your highest session score will be the one that I will put into ProgressBook. Thus, it benefits you to take your time on these 10 question practice sessions and do your best! ALL ASSIGNMENTS ARE DUE BY THE END OF THE DAY ON APRIL 13TH.

In addition to the homework assignments listed above, you will have a weekly “quiz” each week from March 16 – April 3. This score will go into ProgressBook as a quiz grade. Your grade on the weekly “quiz” will be determined by your scores on the assignment for that week. For example, for Week 1 you have an assignment on Study Island that has 4 sections within it. Once you complete those 4 sections within Week 1’s assignment, I will add up your score from all 4 sections and divide by 2 and that will be your quiz grade out of 20 points. For example, for Week 1’s assignment, assume a student scored an 80%, 70%, 90%, and 100% on the four sections. That means the student got 8/10 correct, 7/10 correct, 9/10 correct, and 10/10 correct on the four sections. I will then take those four scores and add them together (8 + 7 + 9 + 10 = 34) and then divide that total by 2 (34/2 = 17) and that student will receive a 17/20 on their weekly “quiz” score that will go into ProgressBook.

Please note that all of the Study Island sections within each assignment are over topics we have covered in class this year. Thus, they are all review material. That being said, if you feel you need a little refresher on a section, Study Island has lessons available. I would recommend taking the time to review the lessons for sections before you attempt the 10 question practice session that will be for a grade.

Please feel free to reach out to me via email (heather_frey@newton.k12.oh.us) with any questions you have whether it be needing help finding where the assignments are located or a mathematical question itself. If you will be emailing with a mathematical question, please send a screenshot of the math question to me in your email. You can take a screenshot of your computer screen by holding the CTRL button and PRT SC button at the same time. Then, in the body of the email message, right-click your mouse and click “Paste” to paste your screenshot image into your email.

I am here to help you and will be checking my email daily in order to communicate with you promptly.

Instructions for Utilizing Study Island:

1. Go to www.studyisland.com

2. In the top-right, click “Login”

3. Scroll down and on the right side of the screen under “Study Island for Schools” click “Login”

4. Login with your username and password (if you need this information, please email Mrs. Frey)

5. On the left-hand side click “My Classes”

6. You will then find your class listed in a blue box. Please click the green button at the bottom of that box that says “View Assignments”

7. There you will find the three assignments listed. There is ONE assignment for each week. Please note that all assignments are due by the end of the day on April 13th.

8. Pick which assignment you wish to work on and click the green “Start” button for that assignment.

9. You will then see the 4 sections within that assignment you will need to complete. Each section is worth a 10 point homework grade and will be a part of your weekly “quiz” score. Click on which section you with to work on first.

10. The pop-up will have a “Lesson” option. Click this if you would like to go through the lesson for the section. Otherwise, click “Practice” to do a 10-question practice session. Remember, you may do as many practice sessions as you wish to get the score you would like.

11. Please note that if you are in the middle of a 10-question practice session and need to stop, you may click “Save Session” in the top right of the screen to save your progress on the section. You will be able to log back in later and pick up where you left off in that section.
